JuriOS Terms of Service
Terms of Service

These are the actual terms.
Written to be read.

Last updated: January 15, 2025  ·  Version 2.4  ·  Governing law: Ontario, Canada

These terms are written for lawyers. You will find no buried gotchas, no auto-renewal traps, and no clauses designed to obscure what you're agreeing to. If something is unclear, email legal@jurios.io.

What you're agreeing to — in five points
Month-to-month subscription. Annual billing saves two months. Cancel anytime with no exit penalty.
Your data is yours. We are a processor, not an owner. You can export everything at any time.
Your data is hosted in Canada. This is a contractual obligation, not just a current practice.
We will give you 30 days notice before any price changes. You can cancel during that 30-day window at no penalty.
We target 99.9% uptime. If we miss it significantly, you receive a credit against your next billing period.
Section 1

The subscription.

JuriOS is a subscription software service. You pay monthly or annually for access to the plan you select. The current plans, features, and prices are published at jurios.io/pricing.

Monthly billing: You are billed on the same date each month. Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date.
Annual billing: You are billed once per year at the annual rate (approximately two months free compared to monthly). Annual subscribers may downgrade to monthly at their next renewal date.
Upgrades: Take effect immediately. The price difference is pro-rated and charged to your payment method on the next billing date.
Downgrades: Take effect at the next renewal date. You retain access to your current plan's features until then.
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time through your account settings or by emailing support@jurios.io. Access continues until the end of your paid period. There are no cancellation fees, early exit penalties, or data held hostage.
Price changes: We will provide 30 days written notice before any price increase. You may cancel during that 30-day window without penalty. Continued use after the 30-day notice period constitutes acceptance of the new price.
Section 2

Your data is yours.

You own your practice data. All client records, matter files, time entries, trust account data, documents, and billing records that you create or import into JuriOS belong to you. We are a data processor; you are the data controller.

Our obligations to your data
We will: never use your data for any purpose beyond providing the service — not for AI training, not for benchmarking, not for advertising. We will never sell your data. We will never share your data with a third party except as required to provide the service (payment processing, email delivery) or as required by Canadian law.
Export anytime: You can download a complete export of all your data at any time through Settings → Export. The export is in standard formats (CSV, JSON) that can be imported into other systems.
After cancellation: Your data remains accessible and exportable for 90 days. After 90 days, all data is permanently deleted from our systems and backups, except trust account data which is retained for 7 years as required by Law Society regulations.
Canadian hosting: This is a contractual obligation. Your data is hosted in Canadian data centres. We will not transfer your data outside Canada without your explicit written consent. This obligation survives any acquisition of JuriOS.
Section 3

Acceptable use.

JuriOS is licensed for use by lawyers and law firms for legal practice management. The following uses are not permitted:

Using JuriOS to manage a practice that is not a licensed law firm or legal services provider in Canada
Attempting to access another firm's data or circumvent access controls
Using JuriOS to process trust transactions that violate applicable Law Society rules
Reverse engineering, decompiling, or attempting to extract the source code of JuriOS
Using JuriOS in a way that violates any applicable Canadian law or professional regulation

Violation of acceptable use may result in suspension or termination of your account. We will provide reasonable notice before termination except where the violation is serious or illegal.

Section 4

Confidentiality.

We treat all practice data — including client names, matter details, financial records, and documents — as strictly confidential. All JuriOS staff and contractors are bound by confidentiality agreements that specifically address legal practice data. Our confidentiality obligations to you survive the termination of your subscription.

We will not disclose your data to any party — including government bodies — without a valid legal process issued by a Canadian court or tribunal. If we receive a disclosure order, we will notify you promptly to the extent we are legally permitted to do so, so that you may seek legal relief if appropriate.

Section 5

Uptime & service levels.

We target 99.9% uptime for the JuriOS application, measured monthly. This excludes scheduled maintenance windows, which are announced at least 48 hours in advance and occur outside Canadian business hours.

Monthly uptimeCreditApplied as
99.9% or aboveNo credit
99.0% – 99.9%10% of monthly feeApplied to next billing period
95.0% – 99.0%25% of monthly feeApplied to next billing period
Below 95.0%50% of monthly feeApplied to next billing period

Credits are applied automatically and do not require a support request. Current uptime is published at status.jurios.io. Historical uptime records are available on request.

Section 6

Limitation of liability.

Our liability to you for any claim arising from your use of JuriOS is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. This cap applies regardless of the form of the claim — contract, tort, or otherwise.

We are not liable for: indirect, incidental, or consequential damages; lost profits; lost data if you have not maintained a current export; or damages arising from your failure to maintain adequate backups of your own data.

We are liable for: direct damages caused by our material breach of these terms; the loss of your data due to our negligence (in which case we will restore from backup at no charge); and any harm resulting from our failure to maintain the Canadian data residency obligation in Section 2.

Section 7

Governing law.

Governing law: The laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein.
Courts: The courts of the Province of Ontario in the City of Toronto have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms.
Language: These terms are written in English. In the event of any conflict between the English version and a translation, the English version controls.
Disputes: We would prefer to resolve disputes directly. If you have a concern, email legal@jurios.io before initiating any legal proceeding. We will respond within 5 business days and make a good-faith effort to resolve the matter.
Section 8

Changes to these terms.

We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we will provide 30 days written notice by email to the admin email address on your account. Material changes are those that affect your rights, our obligations, or the price of the service.

Minor changes — corrections of errors, clarifications of language that do not change the substance of any term — may be made without notice. The version number and last-updated date at the top of this page will reflect any change.

If you do not accept a material change, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect without penalty. Continued use of JuriOS after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

Section 9

Legal contact.

Questions about these terms are answered by our legal team, not an automated system. We respond within 3 business days.
